WILLPOWER PART 19: BREAKTHROUGH

It's late at night. Willow and Kennedy enter casa Summers.
KENNEDY
That was bracing.... and.... pointless
WILLOW
Breakthroughs don't come every day
KENNEDY
This was a total waste of an evening
WILLOW *smiles*
The evening doesn't have to be a *total* waste...
Willow and Kennedy give each other a lusty look and immediately hurry upstairs. They walk into their room and find
the Naf-Seetme, or parts of it, dead on the floor. Blood and goo are splat all around the room including the walls
and the bed.
KENNEDY
Let's try another room
Kennedy attempts to walk mout of the room.
WILLOW
Hold on.
Kennedy sighes.
WILLOW
This is a demon
Kennedy scrapes some green goo off a wall.
KENNEDY *mocking*
What gave you that idea?
WILLOW
Well... what's it doing here?
KENNEDY
Well, you *are* sort of annoying for demons... you know, with the killing them and all. And it
doesn't look like a vampire so it can just enter whenever it wants.
WILLOW
But who killed it then?
KENNEDY
Maybe Dawn
Willow and Kennedy hurry to Dawn's room. Dawn is asleep. Willow and Kennedy leave the room without waking her.
They walk back to their room, talking on the way.
WILLOW
It wasn't Dawn. She would have called.
KENNEDY
You got a point.... Why don't we wake her?
WILLOW
Because she's ill. She needs to rest.
KENNEDY
Huh?
WILLOW
Remember, she called a few hours ago that she wasn't feeling well.
KENNEDY
Oh right
They arrive at their room.
WILLOW
Which brings me back to the bonus question, who killed that?
KENNEDY
Can't we start with an easier question like, what is that?
WILLOW
I don't know... I better call Giles
KENNEDY
Yeah...
Willow walks out of the room to call Giles.
KENNEDY
Let's waste *his* evening too

It is morning now. Kennedy, Willow and Dawn are having breakfast in the kitchen. Kennedy is in charge of baking eggs
wile Willow and Dawn are in charge of eating it up. Willow and Kennedy both look very tired. They obviously haven't
gotten much sleep with the whole demon thing in their room.
WILLOW *yawns*
So, are you feeling any better?
DAWN
Huh?
WILLOW
You remember... you called us at the Magic Box last night and you said you didn't feel well
DAWN
Oh right..... all better. Are you two alright, you seem kinda... tired
WILLOW
We found a dead demon here, in the house
DAWN
What? Why didn't you wake me up?
KENNEDY
Because you were sick, Dawn
Kennedy's tone is just a bit out of the ordinary, but enough for Willow to figure out that there was noting wrong with
Dawn. Kennedy shoves a plate with eggs on bread under Willow's face.
WILLOW
So how'd things go with Mitch?
Willow takes a bite of the eggs.
DAWN *calm*
We broke up.
Willow almost chokes on the piece of food she is eating. She manages to swallow it but she's coughing severely.
WILLOW *still coughing*
Say what?
Willow clears her throat.
WILLOW
I'm sorry, I think I'm hearing things because of my lack of sleep. Come again.
DAWN
I broke up with Mitch
WILLOW
What..... no, why?
DAWN
You know... I really don't wanna talk about it
WILLOW
But...
Dawn looks at Willow in a shut-the-hell-up way. Willow decides to drop the subject.
WILLOW
So... any of you know what was up with Andrew? He was kinda weird last night.
DAWN *nervous*
I'm gonna go take a shower
Dawn quickly stands up and walks upstairs.
WILLOW
Okay, that was weird

At Mitch's place, Mitch is lying on the floor. He quickly gets on his feet. He glances at his watch.
MITCH
Damn! Eleven hours?! I need a better doctor
From outside, one of Glory's minions looks through the room. Mitch is walking around, still a bit disoriented.

Later that day, Mitch arrives at the Summers' residence. He is carrying a small box of stuff. He calls the doorbell.
Kennedy answers the door. Mitch deliberately came at a time when Dawn wasn't home.
MITCH
Hi
KENNEDY
Hi.... come in
Mitch enters the house and puts the box on the floor. At that point, Willow also enters the room.
MITCH
I just came over to drop off some of her stuff
WILLOW
Sorry it didn't work out between you two
KENNEDY
Sometimes it's just not meant to be
MITCH
Yeah, and sometimes it's another guy stealing your girlfriend.
WILLOW
You mean... she's seeing someone else?
MITCH
You mean you don't know?
Willow looks at Mitch, a little shocked that she had no idea.
MITCH *getting a bit angry*
I know she's seeing that nerd. When I get my hands on him....
He suddenly stops and calms down.
MITCH
Never mind. Goodbye
Mitch waves goodbye to Kennedy and Willow and walks out of the door, closing it behind him.
Willow looks at Kennedy. She figures that because Kennedy doesn't have a shocked face, she already knew.
WILLOW *shocked*
You knew this, didn't you?
Kennedy sighs.
KENNEDY
Yes, I knew
WILLOW *still shocked*
Dawn and Andrew ??
KENNEDY
Why is that *so* weird?
Willow looks at Kennedy like Kennedy is completely insane.
KENNEDY
I mean really! Why is that so weird?
WILLOW
You're kidding right?
KENNEDY
I think they're cute together. Andrew may be a nerd... okay, he's definitely a nerd... but he's nice
to Dawn, they feel comfortable with each other and he's not all that bad with the looks.
WILLOW *smiles*
How much time did you have to come up with that line?
KENNEDY *smiles*
More than a day
WILLOW
I guess it's not all that bad, it's just...... completely unexpected
KENNEDY
I know what you mean there. Not exactly the surprise you expect on a birthday party.
They both smile at each other. Suddenly, Kennedy's expression changes to a worried one.
KENNEDY
You think Mitch will go after Andrew?
WILLOW
I don't so. Mitch just doesn't have that inside him

We find ourselves at the 'Welcome To Sunnydale' sign at the entrance of Sunnydale. A car with blackened windows drives
into sunnydale. The loud music can be heard, evn though all the windows and doors are shut.
A couple of minutes later, the car stops at a street with a long row of houses. All four doors open and out step four
people. All of them look different. There is a blonde woman who is clearly a vampire, a dark-blue skinned demon with
a small horn on his face, a fat demon with human-colored skin but a terribly deformed face that shows he is not human
and finally a thin brunette woman who seems to be human.
DARK-BLUE SKINNED DEMON
Hey Rage, this looks like a nice place huh?
FAT DEMON / RAGE
As long as there's food inside... many people to eat
VAMPIRE
Jeez Rage, is that all you can think about? .... Drizz, why don't you kill the owners?
DARK-BLUE SKINNED DEMON / DRIZZ
It'll be my pleasure, Max
Drizz seems excited but doesn't move.
VAMPIRE / MAX *annoyed*
Go to work then!
HUMAN
What if nobody's home?
MAX *smiles*
Then, Kate, we move on to the next house
After a few minutes, Drizz comes back.
DRIZZ
Owners terminated. Come on.
Max, Rage and Kate follow Drizz to the house. When Max tries to enter, a barrier stops her.
MAX
What the hell! Can't you even kill?
DRIZZ
Hey!
Drizz points to the corner of the room where the two occupants of the house lie terribly deformed and ripped apart.
They are very clearly dead.
MAX
Dammit! These weren't the only owners of the house
KATE
So you say that if there's a son out of town, you can never enter... that's embarassing
MAX *angry*
You'd better watch your mouth, you disgusting human
KATE *threatening*
If I were you, I'd be very carefull what threats you throw at me, you might wake up as a cow one day
The two woman exchange angry glares for another few seconds.
RAGE
Can't you two act professional for a change? We have a mission here.
KATE
Fine, I'll kill the people next door. Maybe we'll get lucky and Maxie can finally enter somewhere.
Max and Kate engage in another killing-someone-with-a-look contest.

It is after sunset. Willow, Kennedy and Dawn have just finished dinner at the Summers' home. They start to clean up.
WILLOW
So, you ready for a night of research?
DAWN
Yeah sure. I feel much better. Spent the day at the mall, which is always good for instant-healing
Willow looks at Dawn, whose faces away from Willow.
WILLOW
You know, Mitch came by today
Dawn didn't expect that. She slowly moves her eyes to meet Willow's.
DAWN *smiles awkwardly*
He did?
WILLOW
Yeah, he dropped off some stuff
DAWN
Did he say anything else?
WILLOW
Not much.
Dawn walks out of the room with the table-cloth. Kennedy looks at Willow who has a smile on her face.

At the Harris' residence, Xander and Andrew are also having dinner.
XANDER
So, who is this fantastic girl you went to the mall with?
ANDREW *smiles nervously*
Can we talk about something else?
XANDER
Why?
ANDREW
It's making me uncomfortable, talking about women
XANDER
It was more than one?
ANDREW
No, it was one
XANDER
You got back together with Rachel?
ANDREW *serious*
No
XANDER
Why did you break up with her anyway?
Andrew's face turns more serious and a bit hurt.
ANDREW
....
XANDER
You found out about Kennedy?
ANDREW *upset*
You knew about that?
XANDER
Come on Andrew, that's all way in the past
ANDREW
Not enough
Xander thinks a few seconds about this last remark until he finally gets what Andrew means.
XANDER
You mean...?
ANDREW
Yes. She tried to get Kennedy. I'm through with her.
Xander takes this in for a minute. He definitely didn't expect this.
XANDER *smiles*
You sound like you're over her. This new girl must be great.
ANDREW *smiles*

At the Magic Box, the entire gang has gathered. Giles is sitting at the table and Willow is standing next to the
whiteboard. After everyone has taken a seat at the table, Willow starts talking.
WILLOW
Okay people, I've been further researching the ritual to make a Dagon Sphere. This is how it's going
to work. The spell must be cast by two people.... that means you and me Dawnie.
Dawn and Andrew are sitting next to each other. Both are staring in front of themselves. Under the table, they are
holding hands, but no one else can see it.
WILLOW
Earth to Dawnie....... Dawn?
DAWN
Huh?
WILLOW *smiles*
Where are you at?
DAWN
Sorry, just drifted away. What were you saying?
WILLOW
The ritual to create a Dagon Sphere. It takes two people to make one... you and me Dawn.
Dawn is paying attention now and nods agreeingly. Camera zooms in on everyone at the table.
WILLOW
There must be a circle of salt on the floor with a crystal ball in the center. Dawn and I sit in
the circle, around the crystal ball. Then we need two special candles that we burn next to the
crystal ball. Dawn and I then both hold the symbol of virtue over the crystal ball and recite
an incantation. I got that here.
Camera focusses on Willow and we see a drawing of the situation on the whiteboard.
WILLOW
Oh, and another thing... it can only be cast by daylight
KENNEDY
But what about that symbol of virtue.... what is that?
WILLOW
Well, I found out that it's an object. Other than that, I don't know
GILES
And that is what we are here for tonight. We need to find out what this symbol of virtue is.
KENNEDY
Okay... but what about this dead thing in our house.
GILES
I've identified this creature as the Naf-Seetme. It's a creature that can be summoned.
Willow and Dawn look at each other.
WILLOW / DAWN *in unison*
Glory
GILES
Most probably. But I have no idea what killed it.
ANDREW
Maybe an enemy of this Glory chick
WILLOW
Could be.... but it still has to be a human because demon-violence is not possible because of
the spell I cast.
XANDER
Maybe another hellgod?
DAWN
Oh god, I hope not
GILES
I'm afraid we'll find out soon enough. Let's focus on Glory for now. Creating a Dagon Sphere
is our first priority.
KENNEDY
What's the big deal? It's not like she can enter our house or anything?

We are at Mitch's place. Glory is sitting on a chair, smiling. Her minions are standing around her, also smiling.
GLORY *happy*
And you're absolutely sure she said that?
MINION 1
Absolute, divine one. She said, come in.
GLORY
Looks like this human meatsack finally did something right. I think I'll pay them a visit tonight.
MINION2
If I may remind you, your greatness, there is still the spell against violence
GLORY
That's taken care of as we speak.
Drizz, Kate, Max and Rage enter the room.
DRIZZ
What the hell is this? I woman?
MAX *condescending*
So, this is Glory?
RAGE
She doesn't look that tough
KATE
Shut up! All of you!
DRIZZ
You don't think we're working for her, are you?
Drizz walks to Glory and stands right in front of her. Glory smiles.
GLORY
You know, you can't brainsuck something like you
DRIZZ *confused*
That's.... good to know
GLORY
Good
Glory reaches forward and grabs Drizz's throat. Within a fraction of a second, she has ripped Drizz's head off his head.
His entire body turns to dust.
MAX
That's cool. I thought only vampires turned to ashes.
GLORY *calm*
Anyone else have a problem?
RAGE *quickly*
No, not a problem.
GLORY
Good.
Glory turns towards Kate.
GLORY
You know what I want from you?
KATE
Yes, great one
GLORY
Good. Then get going.
Kate, Rage and Max leave the room. Glory turns back to her minions.
GLORY *smiles*
They'll take care of that pesky spell. Then I'll kill those annoying humans. Ooh, I'm so happy.
Glory rubs her hands together. Glory's expression turns serious.
GLORY
Why isn't anyone cleaning up this dust?

We are at the outside of the Summers' home. Kate, Max and Rage approach the house.
Kate walks to the front door and it opens itself for her. Max stays outside because she can't enter and rage stays with
her. When Kate arrives, she sits down cross-legged on the floor in the living room.
We're outside again. After quite awhile, Kate comes out of the house.
MAX
You undid the spell?
KATE
Yeah, but it was tougher than I thought. The witch that cast this is powerful
RAGE
So, how do you know if it worked?
KATE
Step inside
Rage and Kate step inside the house. Max watches through the front door.
KATE
Hit me
Rage smiles and balls his fist.
RAGE
I've been waiting years for you to say that
Rage pulls his hand back and aims his hand for Kate's face. He hits her face but she doesn't move a muscle.
She immediately hits him in the face and he falls down.
RAGE
What was that for?
KATE *smiles*
It worked. Let's get back to Glory
Kate walks out. Rage gets up and follows her.
When they're outside, Max, Kate and Rage walk away. Across the street, Radament watches from inside a house.
Camera shifts to inside the house. The owners are nowhere to be seen.
RADAMENT
This is not good

At the Magic Box, the gang is still researching. They're looking in books for references to the symbol of virtue.
DAWN
This is getting us nowhere
XANDER
Let's think about this a minute. Virtues... what are the virtues?
ANDREW
You never seen Seven?
Willow pretends she didn't hear that.
WILLOW
Well, all good qualities of a person... wisdom, modesty, courage....
XANDER
Stop! Did you just say courage?
WILLOW
Uh... yeah

I owe you my life Xander. That is why I give you this. Among my clan, this pendant is a symbol of
courage. It is given only to those who have shown exceptional courage in the face of danger.

Xander reaches under his shirt and grabs his pendant from his chest.
GILES
What is that?
Dawn's eyes suddenly lit up.
DAWN
Of course! A symbol of courage.
GILES
Can someone please explain this?
XANDER
This guy gave it to me because I saved his life. He said it was a symbol of courage.
ANDREW
Could that work?
WILLOW
It's worth a try
DAWN
So come on, let's do it
WILLOW
We try tomorrow. Daylight, remember?
DAWN
Right
WILLOW
Let's go home and try tomorrow.
GILES
How about we all meet here at about eleven?
Everyone nods and they all move towards the door.

Willow, Dawn and Kennedy enter the Summers' home. Willow immediately looks worried.
KENNEDY
What's wrong?
WILLOW
The spell.... the anti-violence spell....
DAWN
Is something wrong with it?
WILLOW
It's gone
KENNEDY
Just gone? It stopped?
WILLOW
No... someone disspelled it
DAWN
Well... Glory still can't enter so we're safe enough
GLORY (O.S)
Funny thing happened...
Willow, Dawn and Kennedy are shocked and turn their heads towards the living room where Glory just stands up from her
chair, which was pointed away from them.
GLORY
I was invited
WILLOW
No you weren't
GLORY
I'm here, that's proof enough
GLORY *smiles*
I'm *so* gonna enjoy ripping you all apart
Willow motions Kennedy and Dawn to get out of the house.
WILLOW
Tarn evoc masur!
Willow waves her hand at Glory and Glory is shoved back against the backwall of the Summers' living room.
Willow runs after Kennedy and Dawn, only to discover Kate, Max and Ragestanding on the sidewalk. Using magic,
Willow pushes them all to the right and Willow, Kennedy and Dawn walk the other way.
KATE

Kate raises her hands and a big, almost invisible barrier is erected before them, cutting off their escape.
They turn back towards Kate, Max, Rage and Glory, who is coming out of the house.
WILLOW
I suppose I don't have to ask who broke my spell?
Kate smiles.
WILLOW
Savre temal pontis fasur madrahi!
Willow raises her hands just like Kate did before, erecting another barrier between them and the enemy.
Willow, Dawn and Kennedy are pinned between two walls now.
WILLOW
Dawn, I need you to keep my barrier up, I'll work on removing the other one
DAWN
Are you kidding?
WILLOW
Come on Dawn, I can't do two things at a time. I need to concentrate to break the other barrier.
DAWN
Alright
Dawn starts focussing on Willow's barrier to reinforce it. Glory, Rage and Max have reached Willow's barrier and start
ramming at it. The wall is more powerful than the one Willow erected two and a half years ago and the wall withstands the
attacks. Kate, meanwhile, is focussing on holding her own barrier but her expression reveals that she is losing.
With a cracking sound, Kate's barrier breaks.
WILLOW
Okay, you two run. Dawn, get to the Magic Box and pick up what we need for the spell. Kennedy,
get Giles. Then we all regroup at Xander's. Alright?
DAWN
You want us to leave you here?
WILLOW
I have to keep the wall up
DAWN
They will break the wall away eventually, you know?
WILLOW
I can get away from them.... now go!
Dawn and Kennedy run away, leaving Willow to hold the barrier up. Glory steps back about twenty feet and attempts to
jump over the barrier. Her jump is impressing. She jumps more than thirty feet high, but she still bumps against the
barrier and falls down.
RAGE
I'm gonna get some weapons
rage runs inside the Summers' house. He doesn't get out however.
GLORY
You! Get after him. See what's taking him.
Glory points at Max. Max walks to the front door. She knows she can't enter so she holds her head against the barrier
around the house. She looks to the living room where Rage's body is on the floor. From the corner of her eye, Max sees
something coming.
MAX
No!
A sword decapitates her and she turns to dust. Kate and Glory notice this. Willow also noticed this. Altough she doesn't
know what is doing this, something that kills Glory's helpers cannot be that bad.
Suddenly a crossbow-bolt flies through the Summers' front door, directly at Kate's head. Kate manages to catch the bolt,
just before her face.
GLORY *smiles*
Cool!
Glory's expression turns serious again. She pulls her fist way back and slams it against the barrier.
The barrier manages to hold.
WILLOW *whispers to herself*
Well guys, I hope this headstart is enough. Another hit like that....
Glory rams the barrier again in a similar manner and the barrier dissolves with a cracking sound.
WILLOW
Grando aestuo hostilis
Willow points her hands with her palms forward to Kate. A stream of hail shards fly towards Kate. A barrier around
her protects her from most of the hail shards. After about two seconds, the protective barrier around Kate collapses
and Kate gets hits by another wave of hail shards.
KATE *panicks*
Aaaah, it burns!
Kate's clothes start burning. Kate rolls over the floor to put out the fire. When she stands up again, her face is
cut by the shards and she has some small burnmarks on her face. Her clothes look completely ruined.
Glory rushes towards Willow. Willow pulls her hand back and throws a fireball at Glory. It hits Glory but Glory
doesn't even blink and keeps moving towards Willow. Suddenly, Willow dissolves in the air with lightning crackling
around her.
GLORY *yelling* *angry*
This isn't over. I'll rip all your hearts out. I'll......
Glory grabs her head.
GLORY
Dammit, not now
Before the eyes of Kate, Glory transforms to Mitch. It takes Mitch a few seconds to realize where he is.
KATE *smiles seductively*
You wanna come with me?
MITCH *disoriented*
I don't know..
KATE *serious*
It's better for you if you do.
Mitch runs away but a pillar of fire bursts up from the ground. The pillar is at least a hundred feet high but has a
width of only a few feet. Mitch stops in his tracks.
KATE
I'm here to protect you
MITCH
From who?
KATE
This is not working. Slaku Thess Ponq!
Kate points her hand at Mitch and a bolt of energy hits Mitch. Mitch falls to the floor, unconcious.
Kate then picks up Mitch, seemingly without efford, and walks away.
From inside the Summers' house, Radament watches all this.
RADAMENT
This is getting interesting.
