 Somewhere far across the field and beyond his field of vision Dugan heard a familiar voice. He looked up for a second, but decided his mud pie project was much more pressing. The first six pies were beautiful, and he refused to make an inferior pie now. The mud was starting to harden so Dugan very carefully put the finishing touches on the seventh pie. Again he heard the voice from across the field, but his mud pie mania held strong.
