She smiled. "No, you can't have the gauze. If you want your leg to get better, we'll have to put it on the cut, silly." She laughed lightly at the mare's curiousity, but frowned again when she turned back to her cut. She carefully laid the gauze on the now-clean cut, then wrapped several layers of practical cotton around it. "Okay, this might hurt a little," she said to the mare as she wrapped it with some elastic bandage and secured it. She made sure it wasn't too tight, then put everything back into her backpack. "Okay, thats all set for a while. We need to get you to safe place for you to heal. I don't think you can stay here. I've already asked the owner of a stable if she has any extra stalls she can lend to me, so I think our best bet would be to get you there. What do you think?" She stroked the mare's neck in a comforting way.
