CatB, Yes I do feel exactly the same. Diagnosed HD is a serious defect and a dog that hurt will undoubtedly pass it to at least some of it offspring. There is a movement to breed up to a 2-2 hip as long as you are breeding back to a great hip. this is because the gene pool is so small and breeding only the very best hips will be breeding too close and actually making the gene pool smaller and less diverse. I agree with this because hips are something easily measured and if the information is used correctly it will actually bring up the quality of hips across the board and improve the breed. When the ability is reached to understand the genes responsible for the immune defiency that allows demodex and test for it, I believe we will be able to actually breed it out of the pool as well. But until then all that can be done is to not take any chances by breeding any dog with it or in it's background. Ed
