After the interesting string started by T. Moran on the Blue board, I thought I would share this information. The Historical Boerboel Association of Southern Africa has been involved with this same discussion for some time…how to build on and improve the appraisal system, how to deploy a strategy for the improvement and future of the breed.

The HBSA has a complete program outlined for this strategy, but I will leave that for Mr. Koch to reveal where he chooses. Mr. Koch has informed me that the board of the HBSA has nominated and approved me to convene a technical committee to assist them with the following.

1) An investigation of the functional efficiency of the historical correct Boerboel to perform various tasks
2) Various test, adapted for the breed, to appraise animals for its ability to perform such tasks
3) Plans to implement such tests universally to maintain the standard of functional efficiency required of the historically correct Boerboel.

There are several of us that have some experience with testing and working dogs, and specifically, Boerboels, and I would certainly like to hear from all of you. I have already visited with Jerry Heater, who has been instrumental in helping to develop tests with the NABC, also T. Moran, John Blackwell, and several others about this, and I am grateful for their support. This task will require much input from the Boerboel community. I will be collecting thoughts and concerns from Boerboel owners and breeders as well as consulting with outside sources in this endeavor.
