I had not had any experience that related to a breeder forum board, so this is the first time I have posted here. (I tend to be more vocal than necessary on the USBA board, considering that I have not yet joined the community.)

My friend and I took a nice day trip up to Mr. Blackwell's just north of Tulsa. Of course, there was the regular Oklahoma hospitality and good dog talk. I had taken a friend so that both of us could compare notes on the drive back. My friend is not a molosser person, but her husband has dragged her to so many bird dog and cow dog kennels that I figured she would be the person to take. (I always go in pairs or groups when looking for a breeder.)

We were both impressed with the size of the pens. Even though BBs are large dogs, they had enough room to run, roll, and do all sorts of important doggie things. I personally also preferred the dirt floor rather than cement. John had also done a good job providing shade - very important in this part of the country.

I also took a good look at the skin/coats of the dogs. As I now have a dog that is easily irritated by allergens and had to be dosed with benedryl after an early morning romp through the fields, this was fresh on my mind. None of John's dogs showed any sign of hives, hot spots, goopy red eyes, etc. Good solid, even coats and un-irritated tummies.

As we went from pen to pen meeting "everyone", I noticed that all were more than happy to do what John asked of them. None needed to be TOLD to do anything. (Maybe as a female I am more atuned to that sort of thing. None of that alpha male stuff.)

I had gone thinking I would be looking at Maybe for a possible future litter. But, I was really taken with Shumba. Yes, I know some/most of the histories. He's still a great dog. Both of them are. But that bindle boy is the one that caught my eye. There was a girl or three that I really liked as well. One of the good things about not being in a hurry to aquire a pup is that you get a chance to wait for a pairing that you really like. (Will have to go back and get more looks at the girls, just to be sure.)

Am I done? No, I have 1 or 2 more places to go visit - if they will have me. But, this was a great start! Thanks John!
