Mr Mark VI. Better instrument does enhance a player's ability. I started with a sh_t beginner saxophone and quickily came to a point of little improvement (and I though was that was all I could do), then I decided to buy a pro vintage horn and that has improved my ability to play beyond my dreams. I have come to this situation three times already and have wished I should have started with a Selmer right from the beginning! (But then, I won't separate sh_t from Chocolate, right?)

supersax,

I can hardly agree with what you say...not offencing...

I think any reasonable student sax, without leaks, plays in tune, can be played great....I once felt in love with playing Yamaha YAS100....I think student models offers different sound from professional ones.......

I got a Mark VI, but in my exam not very long ago, I used my Series II alto......although I thought to use Mark VI before, I couldnt as it is still in repairing...and I still make a nice sound out..

I think this all depends on how long and well that you get on with the particular sax.....and also the openness of the sound increases as you spend more time with the sax...

I just sold a YAS32, a superb sax...plays not a cent worse than my Series II alto....
