Doogie, You hit the nail on the head in your last post when you said: "Allow them and I think you will see the number of cur hunters go up". At the world hunt meeting, the members voted for the officers and directors to investigate the possibility of becoming the seventh breed of hounds in UKC. Perry Lambert, president of the alcba, inc. has done almost all of the work with ukc then informed the other officers and directors by mail or via email of any progress made. A progress report will be mailed out to all members on Monday, December 10, 2007 along with a ballot to vote on. This ballot is a vote, not a survey and will be counted by the president and at least three other members of his choosing. Results of this ballot will be posted on the leopard message board and will be in at least one article in Full Cry and probably Coonhound Bloodlines.
McDonough also explained in his post that leopard hunters can register with ALCBA Registry, Inc., UKC, NKC or PKC. The ALCBA,Inc. is an association for the members and is a separate entity from the registry. Nothing will change with the members association as far as hunting in the ALCBA world hunt, little world hunt or varios state section hunts. Only ALCBA and UKC registered leopard curs can compete in the world or little world hunts, this will not change.
Doogie, as far as the other cur breeds hunting in the ukc hound hunts, that is up to their associations to contact ukc if they are interested. They may not want to hunt against the hounds. Several of them have the cur and feist events for squirrel dogs and the attendance is good and does promote their dogs and give the squirrel hunters a chance to put champion titles on their dogs.
The ALCBA, Inc. is already chartered with UKC to register Leopard Curs and one of the best things about this is that the association controls the breed standards. Shortly after being chartered many members felt as though the leopard owners were like "second class" to the hounds and should be able to compete with the hounds in their events. Since only cur and feist events were available for the leopards this attempt is being made and if accepted by the membership, should do more to promote the breed than anything the assoication has done in the past. If anyone has any questions, please call one of the officers or directors of the association. Thanks Dan N
