I have a Garmin eTrex legend c that I have used for about 2 years now. It doesn't have a built in Compass but if you start walking it will give you your direction. You just can't rotate your body for direction like with the compass versions. It does E.I. waypoints, trace tracks, elevation, speed, downloadable contour maps ($ 100.00 extra cd) and so on as most all models do now. If you are a big woods hunter it can be very handy with help of a good topo map....
