Please fill out your survey and return it as promptly as possible. I had a couple of the multiple choice questions that did not have a choice I wanted. I made note in that area to reflect my choice. I have spoken with several officers of other breed associations. The mountain cur association was not one of them. I have not found any association that conducts business other than that at membership meetings or executive meetings. They do have commitees that choose nominations for special awards and ballots are sent out to membership for these.( Hall of fame etc) Several noted to me this has a low response rate. While I do agree it is tough for many members to make these meetings at the ALCBA World Hunt we do have fellas from Connecticut, Georgia, and even Canada attend. At the Ohio 2 hunts 14 states and Canada were represented. I think that is a decent cross section of the membership. It is just nearly impossible to suit everyone. Officers and several board members spoke recently and we see a need for an association news letter 1-2 times a year. We have spoken about making the state vice presidents rolls more active. My thoughts on this is to make a contact that each member in that state may feel easier to contact and speak with. I will agree our association membership wise is not where I would like to see it. We have done some growing business wise in the past several years. Alot of this was necessary to be able to address a larger membership. We recently set up an active board of directors. My thoughts were to give officers and the registration support for issues that arrise during any given year. We recently with the help of Paul Wagner became Incorporated and have a published set of by-laws. As with any new venture this may need revised ocassionally. I see this change in ownership as another possibility to grow as an association. We need to try to keep emotions in check which is difficult when the majority of leopard fanciers are as passionate as most of us are.
I have also spoken with UKC , Mr Todd Kellam and AKC Mr Steve Fielder for their advise concerning how breed standards are set and thier usefulness. Basically from the correspondence I found breed standards are used for show dogs. They are a guideline to go by. Mr Kellam told me papers were never pulled or registration refused for a failure to meet breed standard. These faults have never kept a dog from competing in a UKC Hunt. They however are used to score a dog in a bench show and in some cases disqualify a dog from a show. The chartered association does dictate the breed standards for the UKC. The Association and Registration need to work together to decide how need to use our standards.
We do need to work together the Association and Registration if success is to be achieved. We both need to focus on "LISTENING". Lets face it without active members we are both doomed. I encourage all members and leopard fanciers to contact the registration and the association with concerns. I personally would love to hear from the many members from the ares Randy spoke of that feel left out to get their feelings first hand about some of our present issues. Something I try to live by is " I try not to complain unless I am willing to try to do something to change the situation". Don't set back and grumble. Take the opportunity to make your opinions known. If space is of concern flip the survey over and use the back. If needed get another sheet of paper. Don't let the opportunity to let your voice be heard slip by. ALSO
VERY IMPORTANT....
IF YOUR SURVEY WAS NOT SENT OUT BEFORE NOON ON SATURDAY YOU WILL NEED TO AD A 2 CENT STAMP. POSTAGE WENT UP AGAIN...
Take care, Perry Lambert
