By Buzz Johnson

The Entertainment Publicists Professional Society (EPPS), in cooperation with the Academy of Television Arts & Sciences and UCLA Extension, has developed "Entertainment Publicity: Sources, Secrets and Successes," a one-day seminar for entry-level to senior-level public relations and marketing executives to both teach the nuts and bolts of entertainment public relations as well as bolster the skills of professionals already in the business.

The event, featuring more than 30 speakers representing the fields of film, television, music, sports and celebrity public relations, will be held Saturday, October 18th, from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. at the Academy of Television Arts & Sciences headquarters in North Hollywood.

Conference highlights include TV, film and talent publicity keynote addresses by influential industry experts; case study panels on tactics for creating successful and award-winning campaigns in television, film, home video, music, sports and talent; and other interactive sessions on such topics as working with celebrity clients, meeting the print and electronic media, crisis communication, growing a staff and product placement. Real-life case studies from talent and senior-level executives that help shape today's consumers' perceptions will be presented, as well as an explanation of the different roles of in-house, agency, and independent PR practitioners and the challenges they face, including the real value publicists provide for talent and their entertainment clients.

Organizations confirmed to participate include Paramount Pictures, CBS Television Network, Tribune Entertainment, New Line Home Entertainment, Fox Cable Networks, Berkhemer Clayton, Loeb & Loeb, Firth & Associates, Allison & Partners, Baron Media, The Lippin Group, Fine Living Network, PR Newswire, Daily Variety, The Hollywood Reporter, Billboard, Broadcasting & Cable, TV Week, TV Guide, USA Today, AP Radio, Extra, Zap2it.com, TPEC, Entertainment Industries Council and more.

Enrollment in the conference is available to the public through UCLA Extension (310-825-0641 or www.uclaextension.edu) for $110. EPPS members are admitted free of charge with a reservation. Reservations for EPPS members may be made by calling 888-399-EPPS (3777) or visiting www.eppsonline.org. Public Relations peer group members of the Television Academy will receive invitations with separate details.
