Subject: Basic info on FTV channels?

Hi - can anyone give me a hand to find out some info for my dad (or a link to an explanatory site since I think this is a pretty basic question)? I'm a bit in the dark on this subject but basically he has been viewing ITV, Channel 4 and Five, in the UK using a Sky dish and a Solus card he got during the time when BBC was free-to-view but before it was unencrypted.

Recently the free-to-view commercial channels have disappeared (I believe because of SKY's new encryption system). Is there a way to get hold of a card that will allow him to view these channels, or will my mum have to revert to watching Coronation Street through the blizzard of interference on the terrestrial analogue signal?

If anyone can point me in the right direction it would be greatly appreciated.

Ta,
Al.
