Well, thanks to all that mess with Astra 2D, I conducted my own little investigation about the bitrates, i.e. bandwidths used for BBC Radio on digital satellite. They are as follows:
BBC Radio 1, BBC Radio 3 – 192 kbps each
BBC Radio 4 LW, Five Live, Five Live Sports Extra – 96 kbps each
BBC World Service, BBC World Service Extra – 96 kbps each
1Xtra, 6Music, BBC7 – 160 kbps each
BBC Radio Scotland, BBC Radio Wales, BBC Radio Cymru, BBC Radio Ulster, BBC Asian Network – 128 kbps each,
which gives about 2 Mbps total used for these 15 radio channels. Meanwhile, Radio 2 and Radio 4FM have 192 kbps each on TP 38. Couldn't find the exact bitrates used for BBCi. Dunno what's the minimum bitrate for one BBCi channel. If they use about 2.4 Mbps, they really could swap one BBCi channel for all these radio channels without any additional cost and without causing any problems with BBCi. On the other hand, if we assume that BBC Radio 4LW, Five Live and Five Live Sports Extra cannot be moved because of the copyright infringement, than it's 12 channels with less than 2 Mbps total bandwidth. With swaping, they can surely create that much room for radio on TP 38. If they don't have it already...But Bobben should have the exact details for sure:)
Maybe it's really time for e-mails to start flooding them again...
