To add to the explanation:
The reason this is particularly relevant to Astra 2D is that all transponders on that satellite send on frequencies in the low band.
There are also, however, a few low band transponders on the wide-beam satellites.
For example, if you can get Performance channel reliably, then your box is switching to low band OK.
