Just to add to this discussion, I did exactly this about 4 months ago to allow a friend in Italy to receive Sky. Obviously the second box is not connected to the telephone line (neither is the first). I had to call Sky to initiate the card, but this was no problem, I use a UK mobile phone.

I recently got a series of letters from Sky explaining that it is a condition of the reduced contract that the second box MUST be connected to the telephone line. They threatened to either disconnect me or charge the full price, at their discretion.

I contacted them and pointed out that I do not have a land line telephone, they were totally unsympathetic and said that if I wanted the second card it would have to be at full price, the same as the first. I agreed to this in order to keep the subscription.

So don't be surprised if you start to get this sort of correspondence shortly.
