Apparently SKY is in the process of changing their encryption and do not want to support two formats. The old Solus cards are using the type of encryption the SKY is currently trying to replace. Is it legal? Not sure, but I would love to know how many people panicked and took out a SKY subscription thinking it was the only choice! If I were cynical I might believe this was their intention?
