You should be able to get many of the Free-to-Air channels on Hotbird, but you have to tune them in manually and store them in Other Channels.
Only channels with symbol rate 22000 or 27500 will be receivable - check out Lyngsat to see if there's anything there that interests you.
Sky Digibox is not the best type of receiver for this kind of use - it has limited configurability, and apparently some of them often lose the settings stored in Other Channels.
A normal FTA receiver would be far more flexible.

If you want Astra 2d channels, first check out what size dish you'll need in your location (see Reports on this web site).
Your local dealer might be able to advise you, and may even have a dish set up for this, if there's a big local Brit community.
The only possible area of incompatibility would be if your TV does not have a SCART socket - you don't get any sound if you connect to a continental TV or VCR via the RF/aerial socket.
You'll also need a new-style Free-to-View card if you want ITV/C4/five and you don't have a Sky subscription.
For BBC you don't actually need a Sky Digibox - any FTA receiver will do.
