Does anyone else think that Mason should have been written out after Lane left?

I know he was such a fascinating character with interesting storylines with many other characters, mostly Julia. However, I think that Lane became Mason to such an extent that having other actors in the role degrades it, or changes it irrevocably.

I wish that Mason had been written out when Lane left, so that people would remember him as the one and only Mason.
