Subject: B-deck aft

Blake - having looked at several deck plans of Olympic and Titanic it would appear that the class dividers between 1st and 2nd class would not have been a solid partiton. It would be located in the open promenade area of the pre-Titanic Olympic inline roughly with the fourth funnel. If you look at the photo of the Olympic's Cafe Parisien you will notice a semi-open partition about half-way down it. This is where the class divider would have been on the open Olympic promenade before the Cafe was built post-Titanic. The actual bow end bulkhead of the Cafe parisien on Olympic is too far forward. Plans show it would have been several stanchions back from this bulkhead. Check the class divider indicators on deck plans in Walter Lord's books. Study carefully where they are and then compare it to Titanic plans and you will see where they would/should sit in relation to the area now reserved for the Cafe itself.

Uncertain what would have been used on the open Olympic B-deck promenade. If not a solid partition, then perhaps a portable canvas one or perhaps a small gate as seen on the boat deck. Anyone know for certain?

Also watch the gangway doors along the hull. that is a marking clue for where the divider was on pre-ttanic Olympic. It sat just aft of the forward door (that would be servicing the entrance doors at the head of the area that would be reserved for the Cafe.
