Re: Future football plans -- ktuck911, 11:11:57 06/21/06 Wed
You guys need to get a new stadium... Something that, at the very least, seats 10K... in fact it should seat more than that... way more IMO.. You guys have a pretty good football team... but I feel bad for you guys losing your coach just like that... There's enough cash UCONN can share with you guys to make you more appealing to players that opt for the UMASSes and URIs and UNH's and Maines of the world... I look at the amount of students that go to CCSU alone.. that right there should lead to the AD pushing for more support for your main sports (Football, M & W Basketball to start... also soccer and baseball and softball and track & field)...
Hope your AD's reading this... CCSU should definitely be where UCONN was with their football program at the very least (Something similar to Memorial stadium - in Storrs - should be built in New Britain.. but I'd balance out the seating a little better.. Memorial Stadium has all its seating on one side... which looked too high schoolish IMO... give it more of a Bowl look .. equal seating on both sides and maybe keep the endzone areas open... Time for CCSU to build its own athletic identity on the football field... you guys started but now this... I hear more good things from SCSU (a DII school...)

Football stadiums -- J.J., 10:21:14 06/16/06 Fri
Good points BDD, but heres a summary of the football stadiums and, although CCSU is the currently the smallest, it should not take too much ($3 million) to upgrade and get capacity to about 7,500. It would still be on the small side, but it would be good enough to compete with the other schools.
Central Connecticut Arute Field (Field Turf/3,500)
New bleachers, press box, and filed turf in 2000.

Albany University Field (Natural Grass/10,000)
The field is not that good at all. Not many seats/bleachers, but plans for an upgrade.

Maine Morse Field at Harold Alfond Sports Stadium (Astroturf/10,000)
Recently upgraded and possibly one of the top I-AA fields in New England.

Massachusetts - McGuirk Alumni Stadium (Field Turf/17,000)
Completed in 1965, huge capacity and will have new field turf for the 2006 season.

New Hampshire Cowell Stadium (Natural Grass/6,500)
Built in 1952, a decent facility but by no means state of the art.

Rhode Island Meade Stadium (Natural Grass/6,580)
Great upgrades to be completed for 2006 season.

Stony Brook LaVelle Stadium (Artificial Turf/8,200)
Completed in 2002 at a cost of $22 million, a perfect set up for CCSU.
