New assistants at CCSU -- J.J., 11:56:46 01/25/06 Wed
New Britain Herald

By MATT STRAUB, Assistant Sports Editor
NEW BRITAIN -- Central Connecticut’s football coaching staff is starting to take shape.
A source close to the football program said the school is expected to announce the hiring of two offensive assistant coaches.
Rob Likens and Ashley Ingram are the candidates for two spots on the coaching staff.
Ingram, who worked with new head coach Jeff McInerney at Rhode Island, is expected to be brought on as a top offensive assistant, according to the source.
Ingram, who will turn 33 in March, helped turn around the Rams’ rushing attack as offensive line coach. In his first five years with the Rams, URI had its top five rushing totals in school history.
URI ran for more than 2,000 yards in every season since 2000, finishing second in the country in I-AA in 2003 with 4,005 yards on the ground. In 2004, the Rams ran for 3,074 yards.
The Iron City, Ga. native played on the offensive line at North Alabama and was part of the Division II championship team three times from 1993-5. During that span, the Lions won 41 games.
After spending at year as a graduate assistant at North Alabama, Ingram spent the 1998 spring semester in the same role at Temple before taking an assistant coach and physical education teacher position at North Cobb High in Kenesaw, Ga. From there it was on to Division II West Alabama, where he earned his first full-time coaching assignment, where he spent a year before heading north.
Another offensive mind on his way to New Britain, according to the source, is Likens, last the offensive coordinator at Southeast Missouri State. He had spent five years at Temple as the wide receivers coach prior to his stop at SEMS.
Considered a passing mind, Likens should balance with Ingram to form the foundation of a solid offensive staff. Likens, who will be 39 in September, played wide receiver at Mississippi State before starting his coaching career at the high school level. He got his first college coaching job in 1992 at North Alabama, where he stayed for five years before heading to Temple.

Re: New assistants at CCSU -- Blue Devil Backer, 13:41:30 01/25/06 Wed
It is rumored that Coach Holmes, the running backs coach under Masella who did not go to Fordham will be retained. Any truth to that rumor?

Word is that CCSU will travel to Statesboro, GA on September 9, 2006 to face Georgia Southern (So Con). Its reportedly a buy game, where GSU will not return a game to New Britain, but instead will instead pay us $70,000 for the game.
As insider posted, other scheduled OOC opponents are @ Southern Conn (D-II) and vs. Marist (MAAC). The NEC schedule won't likely come out till late spring/summer.
I also think we are playing St. Peters (MAAC), but personally I'd like to see another team instead, maybe an OVC or MEAC squad.
