From the Newington Bee:

Sirois joins CCSU hoop staff
By Nick Carroll, Sports Editor

Kensington resident Gary Sirois has joined the coaching staff of the Central Connecticut State University men's basketball team.

Sirois comes to CCSU after two successful seasons at the helm of the St. Joseph College women's hoop program.

"I am thrilled to have the opportunity to work for coach (Howie) Dickenman and Central Connecticut State University," Sirois stated. "Coach has built a very successful basketball program and I consider myself fortunate to be a part of it."

Sirois came to know Dickenman in the 1990s when Sirois was the girls basketball coach at St. Paul's School in Kensington.

"Coach volunteered an hour of his time at our summer basketball camp and spoke at our sports banquet in 1998," Sirois explained. "Since then I have watched his teams practice, and Coach has always made himself available to me for advice.

"When I learned that CCSU might have an assistant coach position open for the 2005-2006 season, I contacted him and things went from there."

Sirois' position at CCSU is fulltime. His responsibilities will include coaching, recruiting and performing administrative duties related to the team.

Sirois arrives at CCSU with an excellent track record. He led St. Joseph College to two straight GNAC tournament appearances. And this past season, St. Joseph defeated cross town rival Trinity College for the first time in school history.

"My two years at St. Joseph College were very rewarding for me both professionally and personally," Sirois stated.

Before arriving at St. Joseph College, Sirois served as an assistant coach at Springfield College. During Sirois' two-year tenure at Springfield, the team won back-to-back conference championships and qualified for the NCAA Division III tournament.

Prior to his hiring at Springfield College, Sirois coached at St. Paul's School for five seasons.
