stranger that's fine, but clearly I bought in to the idea that CCSU wants to step up to something like the PL level (not too unreasonable). Masella wants a shot at the playoffs, and who can blame him? Lets be clear we know CCSU isn't IA or bowl bound as some programs banter about, but if the Central does not want to work toward an IAA playoff chance through its current conference, or some step up in competion, then that's too bad.
And if that's not the case fine, CCSU should just say they are happy being a second class, second rate program. In my opinion, mid-major FB will not last too long into the future anyway. And please explain to me how a nearly identical (yet slightly larger) peer schools such as Towson can step up, but CCSU can't or won't. Yes, we'll always be second class to UConn and other big state schools, but if we can't compete with other peer schools (like Towson, Appalachan St., Indiana St., etc.) across the country, then what are we doing?
Finally, I respect the guy is going home to NY and making some more $ in that new position. He has do do what's best for him and his family, I have no complaints there. I also glad at the job he did at CCSU, but to think CCSU can't or won't try to go to the next level - IAA with a chance at the playoffs - is crazy.

Insider, any idea if there are plans to address CCSU's "impedements to having a successfull program"? Outside of the NEC move to 30 scholarships, is anything else in the works?
Academics aside (Fordham and PL schools do have much higher academic standards), does CCSU plan to do anything different in moving forward with the football program under a new coach? Does Central really want to compete for a IAA playoff berth or are we happy with the mid-major status quo?

Leo Durocher is wrong -- again. Good guys don't always finish last.
The latest to refute the legendary major league baseball coach and curmudgeon's adage is Tom Masella who, after more than two well-traveled decades and most recently back-to-back Northeast Conference championships at Central Connecticut, is coming home to New York City as Fordham University's football coach.
The most impressive thing about the Staten Island native's coaching makeup isn't the fact that winning football teams arrived on campus shortly after he did, or remained residents after his arrival.
It's that he didn't become disillusioned and embittered and never lost his commitment to his players.
Masella, who played his football at Tottenville HS and at Wagner College where he was Walt Hameline's first team captain, certainly had more than enough opportunities to do so.
Twice, he became unemployed because the teams on which he served as defensive coordinator -- Massachusetts and Connecticut -- were so successful that the head coach left for a bigger job. Naturally, the administrations had to assuage that slight by looking for a "name coach" rather than rewarding the assistants who played major roles in the teams' success.
It's a measure of the man that he's taking his whole Central Connecticut staff with him: Central wouldn't make an immediate commitment to any of his assistants.
I mean, why would Central want to maintain continuity when the Blue Devils could go back to where they were before Masella, former Wagner offensive coordinator Ed Argast and the rest of his staff arrived: 17 consecutive losing seasons.
Masella's most disillusioning experience, though, came at Boston University when the former BU assistant, returned there as head coach, believing an administration which said it was 100 percent committed to the program.
Eighteen months after Masella arrived, the 100 percent committed administration pulled the plug on its century-old football program.
What upset Masella most was not his being out of a job, but his "lying" to the kids he had recruited.
It's a measure of the man that before he went job hunting, he helped the players he recruited find other college football programs.
It's unlikely Tom will have the immediate success at Fordham that he had at Central. Frankly, the team he left behind, which had something like nine freshman starters at the end of the season, is better than the one he's inheriting. Witness Central's season-opening 24-22 victory over the Patriot League's Colgate which, in turn, beat Fordham 23-0.
But while it may take a little time to make Fordham a winner on the field, the players there were immediate winners Thursday when the school announced its new coach.

Article mentioned that he's taking the whole staff. NO nasmes mentioned. Does anyone know who is going? Volk, Argast, Hall, Forcucci, Lawrence.? Players are all in the dark over what is happening.
