Both Conn. teams got a little press for their showing out in CA. Santa Clara will get a chance to get back on track with a game vs. Gonzaga on ESPN.

Rising and Falling

[UP] CENTRAL CONNECTICUT: The Blue Devils had a huge win for the program by winning at Santa Clara last week. CCSU will still be a player in the NEC.

[UP] YALE: The Bulldogs beat Santa Clara a night after CCSU for an in-state sweep in the Bay Area of the hometown team. But Yale is proving to be a tough out after taking Boston College to two overtimes.

[DOWN] SANTA CLARA: The Broncos beat North Carolina and Stanford. Those wins were in November. Since then, the Broncos have lost six of nine games, including four straight.

And here's a little love for NEC leader SFPA:

Worst losses
We're not sure which is more astounding -- that Saint Joseph's latest home loss dropped the Hawks to 3-5, less than a year after they threatened to go undefeated ... or that No. 10 Pittsburgh's first non-conference home loss in 49 games came against a team from the Patriot League.

How about this: Both losses came to Bucknell.

How good is Bucknell? Forget that. How good is St. Francis (Pa.)? The Red Flash beat Bucknell in November.

Here's some more from ESPN:

What about Santa Clara beating North Carolina 77-66 in the season opener? It doesn't get much better than that. Yes, I understand that the Tar Heels were without Raymond Felton. But Sean May and Rashad McCants were there!

Then, how do you explain that same Santa Clara team losing back-to-back games to Central Connecticut State and Yale in the Cable Car Classic? Think about it, those are not household names!
