They aren't unbeaten anymore. SHU beat them at the Pitt Center. 44-41, not a pretty game by all accounts, but a win.

Just when I make a comment, something like that happens!

Most agree the NEC has been especially weak this year against OOC opponents. The NEC is ranked 30 out of 31 conferences in the RPI. And right now just one team (SFPA) is in the top 200 RPI - that sucks!

So what is up within the NEC? Not only are upsets possible every night, some games get down right out of hand.

Go figure last night ...
Last place SHU (now just 2-7 in the NEC / 316 RPI) eeks out an upset vs. Monmouth, who was undefeated in the NEC at 7-0.
Former ESPN Bottom-10 team, Wagner (3-7 NEC / 313 RPI) clobbers QU by 30 @ home on MSG.
After losing to Monmouth, FDU returns to smack LIU by 20.

I don't know if this makes the NEC more exciting to watch, or that most teams are just too inconsistant. Right now any team can make the playoffs and win this thing. However, unless Monmouth, FDU, or SFPA win it as likey #16 seeds, expect a play-in game for the NEC reprersentative in the NCAAs. Are these the kind of things that keeps the NEC regarded as a "low-major" conference?
