Subject: Facilities

What is the chance that Central will see a new sports arena in New Britain sometime in the next 5 years or so? The CCSU master plan included plans for a 6,000-8,000 seat fieldhouse on campus for years now. Is anything closer to reality?

You guys have a big enuff facility. Kaiser Hall seats, what, 3-4,000 people. You could probably get biggers schools to come for a home & home series. But, what would the overal advantage be. Take a look at the Fairfield Stags, they play at Harboryard Arena, seats about 9,000. They are lucky to draw 2,000 people per game. They are spending alot of money, renting the arena, for the exposure of playing in a bigger arena. I can't see the benefits.

CCSU has waaaay more students than Fairfield (12K undersclass, right?)... They need a facility upgrade in the worst way IMHO... If they can get access to arena like a Harbor Yard that Fairfield has, you'll see a difference in their recruiting... It'd be nice to see them get an upgraded facility that would see up to say 7,500 folks... It'd also help with football recruiting... Honestly, with the amount of students going to CCSU, I'm surprised that the athletics isn't more emphasized...

to say the current facility is good enough is just plain wrong. It's a high school gym at best. The benefits of having the arena go beyond total attendance, Fairfield hosted the women's tournament this season and will host the men's in a year or two. An arena at 5-6,000 would benefit everyone, not just the school. Teams will not come in to play at Detrick, that is a fact. The floor is old, the seating bad and the overall facility just needs to be replaced.

I dont think the size the facility is is question, It is just so Old. I think the gym was built in the 50s. If you compare the facilities to any other NEC gym (even SHU) Centrals gym gets blown away. That must be tough come recruiting time.

I would agree with you moose, that anything over 5k seats would look like an empty gym, But somthing new is in order.
And hey, if the state is ponying up the dough, CCSU should use it cuz it may not be there anytime soon.

What would the cost be of putting in a new floor (one that can get laid over the existing one) & bleachers? They already put in new bleachers on one side. They could also, put in a floor similar to SHU's. They take that up during the summer, so they can hold fund raising events there.

you're talking a half a million dollar job, and why would you put a new floor over the old one, that wouldn't solve any problems....there are plans for a new floor, but the old one will come out. The whole gym needs to go....bad lighting, bad sound, just plain old.

Installing a new floor on the gym is the equivalent of putting lipstick on a pig. Central's gym is a joke and definitely needs to replaced. It is not fair to compare Fairfield's lack of attendance with Central's. Yes I agree we would not come close to filling it up, but Central plays more in state rivals and is developing a rivalry with various teams in the northeast unlike Fairfield. The central-Umass game is always very good, Central even gave Providence the scare of their life, Id love to see them play at Central. Fairfield plays alot of out of state opponents unlike Central. Recruiting will also get a huge boost, and who knows, central could turn into great mid-major school because we do have a great coach. If Uconn got a new football field so we can watch the scorchers between them and Rutgers and Kent State. Why cant central get a piece of money being thrown around? Its about Fu*king time.

the facility doesn't matter in bringing in the other teams...what matters is the fact that we can beat them and they will not come to our place and play, new facility or not. And there is no reason to start ranting and raving on this board with curses and insults, this isn't that type of board.

Hey guys, I am not trying to cause an argument here. I would like to ask you a question. How many of the gyms have you been to? I have seen them all & here is my order from best to worst.

1. Mt. St. Mary's
2. Robert Morris
3. Sacred Heart
4. Quinnipiac (supposedly building a new one)
5. Fairleigh Dickinson
6. Central Ct.
7. St. Francis (NY) (too small, but OK)
8. Wagner (too small, but OK)
9. Long Island (too small, but OK, old converted music theater)
10. Monmouth (just too old, they are building a new one)
11. St. Francis (PA) (just too old)
