for the same reason the papers only come out to write about football and basketball, it is because of the popularity. With all due respect to the other sports who certainly made CCSU proud this fall, Universities live and die by their big name sports. Just ask a North Carolina alum, while their women's soccer team just won its 17th (?) national championship (I know CCSU is not UNC, I'm just using them as an exampple of other sports having success and noone caring), things won't be right up there until Roy Williams returns the hoop program to where it used to be. Alums take pride in the bigger named sports and despite the success of the other sports, it's the footballs and basketballs that that drive departments...

Coach - I'm glad you joined us and have comments about other teams, however I think its fair to say that football and basketball are the most popular spectator sports in general. While other sports such as soccer, lacrosse and ice hockey have a strong regional interest, the majority of U.S. fans watch college football and basketball. That is why they are often referred to as "revenue sports" and have television contracts. Regardless, I would never want to undermine the recent success of men and women’s soccer, volleyball, and baseball teams at Central. Those teams, just as much as men’s basketball, have proved we can compete with national programs.

I welcome you and everyone to get more CCSU students, fans, and alumni on the board to discuss CCSU Athletics. Personally, I believe a well rounded and successful athletic program is great for the university.
