Mark, I just got back from fishing the Salmon River Sept 17, 18, 19, 20. There is not a huge ammount of fish in the river just yet ( not a huge ammount of anglers either) but there were enough fish around to keep things interesting. Each morning in the lower end of the river there were fresh fish moving through but not huge numbers of fish (you really had to work for your fish). I would guess that in two weeks things should pick up considerabally not only in the number of fish but also in the number of people that are fishing for them. Fishing with a sink tip or full sinking line can be a productive method of catching salmon but key is to find a non- crowded area of the river where you can make a backcast and drift / swing without hooking 10 other guys. This is indeed possbile but in my honest opinion it won't be possible in two weeks espically if you are there on a weekend. Try mid week and do some hiking away from the parking areas. Good luck.
