At 5:00am it was 16 degrees Port Ontario, Wind from the northwest at around 20mph, and the snow was blowing in horizontal. In a word it was nasty. But the steelhead were calling our names and we set out in pursuit of them. Like a Greyhound out of the starting gates after a rabbit, we headed up the creek to each pertinent Lie, run or location and soon we were listening to the sweet sounding music of Eastern Basin HEAVY METAL THUNDER. METAL HEADS, STEELHEADS that is....As Lake Ontario lake effect squall after squall blasted past us, the CHROME UNITS went on a bonified egg gobbling frenzy. Straightline bottom bouncing was the way to go as floats were only traveling one direction today (UPSTREAM and EAST) negating their utility as a fish catching device. At times, visability was only a dozen yard or so as wooden nickel sized snow flacks pelted us with reckless abandon. When the smoke (snow) cleared at 11:30am, we had gone Seven (7) for eight (8) with fish of #3lbs, #5lbs, #7lbs, #9lbs, #9lbs, #12.30lbs, and a whopper at #13.90lbs, 34" inches. It was just one of those days where everything falls into place and Pete and Gary from NJ. enjoyed it throughly. As has been the case, HOT PINK EGG SACKS from (you know where) were again the hot ticket. All fish but the two largest were released to nibble someone else's egg sack while the big ones are going on the wall. Hope tomorrow is half as good. Good fishing. Walleyed Out!!!
