Subject: Task Force meeting

Hi folks, well we have had our first Task Force meeting and there was a good turn out. Mayor Boyles, Col. Gallagar, Harlan Legare, David Williams from Corps of Engineers, Commisioner Barton and support staff from DOT, Phill Nagaele and Brett Nelson from Natural Resource Community Services, staff from John Coghill's office, staff from Sen. Gene Therrault's office, Ed Plum from National Weather Service and the three members from Salcha. So you can see that there were many agencies represented each with their own areas of responsibility, interest and goals. And of course money was one of the biggest questions. Everyone needs money to do anything. There were good ideas, bad ideas and many impractical ideas tossed around. Those will all need sorting out. My impression of the meeting was that each of these agencies are willing to work to gether to formulate "fixes", within each of their areas of expertise, that will work with the other groups. But the easy part is to do the talking now we have to see just what the "talk" will accomplish. I have my fingers crossed for good results. I am hoping that we can have a community get together so that all of you that have suffered with this flooding and also the constant threat of the next flood can get your ideas presented. I have many of your suggestion from the first meeting the Salcha Council held but we need more imput from you. So you may be called upon to attend yet another meeting. It's your dime so start talking. I welcome your e-mail too. Let's exchange some ideas. Please keep in mind that this is a big undertaking and it is going to require cooperation from all of us, in one way or the other, to see it through and what may be good for some may not be good for others. The goal is to do the best for as many as possible. To quote a motto i heard: The three Cs communicate, co-ordinate, co-operate, easier said that done but worth a try.
