Subject: Sweet Victory Ranch

"Welcome home girl." Hector says trailing along his gorgeous palomino paint behind Stash. The stud comes to a hualt outside of the stables and a few hands come out to care for the horses. All the men grab hold of Stash right as he starts rearing and take him into his stall in the stallion barn. Penny, a 14y/o girl and one of the hands, takes Goldie back to her stall. Once there, she gives the mare a huge hug and strokes her beautiful face. This is her favorite horse and she didn't want to see her gone or hurt. She was the only reason Penny was still around. "You had me so worried, Goldie. You know you're the only reason I put up with Hector and his foolish men. Let's get you all cleaned up and pretty again." When Penny returns, she grooms the mare from head to hoof. "There. All pretty again."

"Penny! I hope you have that mare ready!" Hector yells down the hall. "I want her to me in 5 minutes!"

"Yes, sir." Penny replies. "He's really mad. Oh, Goldie, what did you do?" she asks the mare, burrowing her face into her mane. Goldie nickers and softly nuzzles the girl. Penny reluctantly pulls away and leads Goldie to Hector. "Here you are, sir. I've groomed her to perfection." "I see. Give her here." "Yes, sir." Penny says handing over Goldie's lead. She gives the mare an 'I'm sorry' look and backs away wondering what Hector will do to her.

Hector grabs the lead and stalks away with Goldie to the covered round pen. He lets her off the lead once the gate's latched and makes her run until she's out of breath and even then, beats her to keep her running. The whites of her eyes show as she runs in fear of the man. Her heart pounds in her chest, her breathing is labored. Then he finally lets her stop and takes her back to the stables, breathless. "Penny, come take care of this mare." he calls.

"Yes, sir." Penny says walking up to Goldie. "Girl, what did he do to you? You can hardly breathe. Let's cool you down and get you a nice meal." Penny takes her time and walks Goldie for over an hour then rinses her down. She takes her back to her stall and gives her a well deserved meal and fills her water buckets. After Goldie's done eating and all dry, Penny grooms her again then turns her out in a solitary paddock. Goldie whinnies for the others and waits by the gate until Penny is out of sight. She then quietly grazes by herself.
