I got it. Unfortunately, the commentary is by Malcolm McDowell and Nicholas Meyer, no DW, unless it's well hidden somewhere in the DVD. On the plus side, Malcolm has some VERY complementary things to say about DW being a fantastic actor. It also includes the interesting tidbit that, apparently, during his run as Hamlet for the RSC, DW had hordes of screaming girls hanging out at the stage door for him every night and Malcolm (so he says) would help DW pick one out. On the upside, I really like the film. Seeing DW in a white disco suit is priceless.

Yeesh, that's not how it's advertised on Amazon, but they can always get away with anything.
I was going to get it anyway, because the laser version is a big heap of mush - I can't tell if that's how they made it in the first place or if it's laser rot on the move.
Thanks for the update!

I know, I bought it off Amazon, thinking I would get that nice bonus, but NOOOOO. The DVD looks great, though, on my system. Biggest problem is the sound editing. The music is played at about twice the volume of the dialogue, so have the remote ready for at-home mixing.

That's another one of those things about movies that doesn't translate from analog to digital very well. The effect was deliberately asked for by the director. He said he wanted it to be like opera. It blares on laser as well; lots of horns.

I finally got mine and it's very disappointing as far as my needs are concerned. No news, the commentary is quite bland, and the widescreen-only treatment means very little detail is available in the close-ups.

There are some good sound bites in the commentary, but they are fairly few and far between. I like how Nicholas Meyer keeps saying how he was bad as a director ("I really should have shot that differently."), but a great screenwriter ("Wow! I write great dialogue"). The second quote is pretty much verbatim.

The discussion of the foot chase scene is amusing, too ("And here's David, and he's going to start running, and THAT'S as fast as he's gonna go.."). And the cute aside from Malcolm at the end: "I'm going to call David tonight and tell him how good he is in this film." Other than that you have to sit through 2 hours of Malcolm talking about dating Mary Steenburgen.
