Subject: Royston Vasey: The Movie

Looks like Santa's been reading this message board ... David Warner's in a new comedy that's currently in post-production called "Royston Vasey: The Motion Picture" (http://us.imdb.com/title/tt0435687/). Yay! But the IMDb doesn't have a name for his character listed; I hope he's got a decent-sized role in it. Unfortunately, as for Ladies in Lavender, there's no US release date listed. If it's not coming out here, that does it--I'm moving to the UK! It's been too long since we've seen DW on the big screen here.

DW talks about the movie on this website for the British TV series that the film is based on:

(Looks like I'm not the only one who's decided to leave for more favorable cinematic climes!)

Looks like the title of the film has been changed ... but it's still listed as being in post-production, and DW's character still doesn't have a name, according to the IMDb. (Michael Sheen doesn't either. But I'm thrilled he's in the movie too. I loved him in "Laws of Attraction" and "Timeline"!) I'm still praying the movie gets released over here!

There's supposed to be a trailer at the following URL:

http://www.uip.co.uk/trailers.asp?ChosenTrailer=league_of_gentlemen

Also on this site:

(Of course in the UK, they're showing it in theatres.) Unfortunately, I couldn't view it on my "vintage" 1990s-model computer (I waited a half hour for the RealPlayer version to load before giving up), so if anybody else has been able to watch it, I'd love to hear all about it!

It's a teaser trailer, only about 30 sec long.

Thanks, Agatha! I'm glad I didn't waste any more time than I did waiting for it to load. But just to tide us over (or is it to tease us poor Yanks who probably won't get to see the movie even further?), there's a scan of a magazine article about the movie here. (Warning for anybody else out there with a slow computer: it's over 400K):

DW plays the archvillain! (Hmm, shades of Time Bandits??)

I don't think that's David. I didn't see him in the trailer at all; that looks like somebody else in the toilet. (I did, however, get a most gratifying glimpse of Michael Sheen ... with big round circles drawn around his eyes!)

Unfortunately, I watched it in a computer lab and couldn't get any sound and, of course, have never seen the show, so I had no idea what was going on. Can anyone explain?

I finally got to see the trailer on a good computer at a friend's house. (I watched it without any sound the first time in the computer lab, and the video was all choppy on my computer at home.) *Now* I know what you're talking about. I thought you meant the room as opposed to the actual bowl! I wouldn't have recognized that as a toilet unless the guy said it in the video.

Anyway ...

Oh my ... that's weird! And he does kind of look like a Musketeer ... crossed with the Jack of Clubs! Looks like it's going to be a very, um, different sort of comedy. Hope we get to see it over here even though we don't get the TV series. (It's set for release in the UK on June 3.)

My friend in England told me the Daily Mail panned the movie giving it only one star out of five. (Too much bathroom humor, they said!) I guess I don't feel so bad that we'll probably never get to see it over here. DW's done some bad movies, but I think this is the first time he's ever appeared in a toilet!
