Subject: KAPAMILYA: ABS-CBN at 50!

ABS-CBN marks 50th year with TV special & two documentaries

ABS-CBN pays tribute to the men, women and events that have shaped our TV-viewing lives over the past five decades with two documentaries and one very special TV spectacular this October.

On Sunday, October 12, ABS-CBN's multi-awarded Integrated News and Current Affairs produces an all-encompassing look at television news as seen through the eye of ABS-CBN in Sa Mata ng Balita: 50 Taon ng Pamamahayag sa Telebisyon. On the following Sunday, October 19, noted production team Asianeye Productions present Limampung Taong Ligawan: The Pinoy TV Story, a look into ABS-CBN's corporate history. And on the final Sunday of the month, October 26, ABS-CBN makes television history with the biggest, brightest, most star-studded TV special with its 50th Anniversary Extravaganza at the PICC Plenary Hall.

Sa Mata ng Balita encapsulates some of the most unforgettable, remarkable and celebrated events of the last 50 years as captured by television news. Tracing the evolution of TV news and current affairs from being a mere source of information to becoming a tool for public service and a catalyst for change and nation-building, Sa Mata ng Balita pays tribute to the men and women who have gathered, reported on and delivered the news to the Filipino people over these past five decades. Representing them are several generations of the country's most memorable news anchors: Henry Halasan, Frankie Evangelista, Bong Lapira, Harry Gasser, Tina Monzon Palma, Angelo Castro, Jr., Noli de Castro, Loren Legarda and Korina Sanchez.

Several months' worth of intensive research allows Sa Mata ng Balita to feature rarely-seen original video footage of landmark historic events as seen on television through the efforts of a sterling behind-the-scenes staff. This includes Overall In Charge of Production Luchi Cruz-Valdez, Executive Producer/Headwriter Angela Blardony-Ureta, and Director and Cinematographer Dik Trofeo.

Limampung Taong Ligawan: The Pinoy TV Story, meanwhile, is a celebration of Philippine television history as seen through the lens of the country's pioneering network. It all starts with ABS-CBN's parent company, Alto Broadcasting System, and how its first test broadcast in October 1953 marked the beginning of five decades of a never-ending courtship between ABS-CBN and the Filipino viewer.

Dolphy, a true-blue Filipino legend, anchors the show with an all-star team of segment hosts including Vilma Santos, Sharon Cuneta, Charo Santos-Concio, Bayani Agbayani, Nova Villa, Claudine Barretto and Piolo Pascual. Also the subject of months of intensive research, Limampung Taong Ligawan will feature remarkable amounts of classic television footage, many of which have not been seen on TV since the time they aired.

Behind Limampung Taong Ligawan are some of the best talents in television, advertising and film, including Executive In Charge of Production Charo Santos-Concio, Supervising Producer Chit Guerrero, Executive Producer Kara Magsanoc-Alikpala, Co-Executive Producer Veronica Alcaneses-Pantig, and acclaimed director Jeffrey Jeturian, who takes directing duties on the documentary.

Don't forget to watch these dahil minsan lang mangyari ito sa loob ng 50 taon!
