What a wonderful and evocative sentence on so many levels. A perfect blend of sorrow, heartbreak, hope, fear and irony.

"She's doomed no matter what..." And in a way he is too. Even if he reaches the sunlight he would never be able to forget what it cost her to get him there. Beautifully done.
