About the price of diesels,, I have to agree with you. Here in the Netherlands the price difference is actually magnified by a higher tax level for diesel engines. Compared to a 2 liter petrol Megane Sport Hatch the 1.9 dCi is a whopping 3600 euro more expensive over here.

But if they'd put an automatic on it (which they won't) I just might be tempted.

You might consider waiting for the petrol turbo version. It will be toned down considerably compared to the turbo in the Sport Hatch (165 BHP vs 225) but it will still have 270 Nm of torque. Both the diesel and the petrol turbo will not be available at launch btw, but the diesel will probably arrive sooner since it has been officially announced, which the turbo hasn't.
