Here is the WRC as I see it developing for the 2001 season.
Your comments are welcome and encouraged.

North Divison

1. Solon: One of the deepest and most well developed public school programs in Ohio. Even though they graduated, they have the depth to be able to plug in players where they need them and be very successful. Their returning talent is excelent. May not go to the State title but no one on their schedule can beat them unless they really screw up, and they are too disciplined to let that happen. WRC-N 5-0, Over-all 10-0.

2. Nordonia: Very strong lines, and some pretty solid skill players. Will beat everyone in the North except Solon. Sims will probably be the impetus of this teams trip to the playoffs with an 8-2 overall record (losing also to McKinley), and a 4-1 record in the WRC-N.

3. Mayfield: Probably overall a 7-3 team. Should have the talent to win everything but they don't have the attitude to put away the good teams. In the conference they will be beaten again by Nordonia (Mayfield is 0 & 8 vs. the Knights) and will probably be beaten by Solon again (they play both games away and will be too intimidated by the surroundings to do anything but cheap-shot). Same is true for when they host Walsh week one--they will be intimidated and turn the ball over too much and get beat because of it.
Will end the season out of the D1 play-offs with a 7-3 record and 3-2 in the conference.

4. Kenston: 5-5 and 2-3 in the conference. Too much youth with too much arrogance. Will be a great team over the next few years but you don't win too much with a sophomore nucleus on a varsity football field.

5. Brush: 4-6 and 1-4 in the conference. Hands down the best skilled talent in the WRC from both divisions, but this team physically lacks a line, and a decent quarterback and mentally lacks discipline and focus.

6. Twinsburg: 2-8 and 0-5 in the cofnerence. The Smith and Jones show has left town and there is nothing in the cupboard to replace them with. This is another program that is really searching for focus and identity. Sorry Big Al, but it's not like the good ole' days at Bennie when you could build your team through the draft.

The South:

1. Cuy Falls or Hudson: neither team is particularly strong or can even be considered a playoff contender this year but will probably do well in the conference. Probably a 7-3 or 6-4 record on tap for these teams with a 4-1 conference record. I don't think any team can go through the south this year undefeated.

2. Stow: next best team by default, will probably also go 6-4 this year and 3-2 in the conference. Stow led by Feldman will stay this way until he manages to find another Marcus Sanders to ride to victory. Do you think he really left Ravenna because being an assistant coach at WGH was a better job? C'mon.

3. Kent: I could be wrong here, but kent has some nice players coming back and may very well surpass Stow, but the program just has not yet recovered from losing Nemec's expereicne and leadership on the sideline even though Vassalotti is his boy. Kent could and up 5-5 this year and 3-2 in the conference if they get over on Stow. They will beat Ravenna and Barberton.

4. Barberton: Probably 3-7 overall with a 1-4 conference record. Program is a mess and needs a serious overhaul and attitude change to be successful again--from the top down. Some really nice skilled players returning, but the attitude their is devastating, not to mention the loss of a player during the season last year. The Magics have a long and painful recovery ahead of them, if they make the right decisions.

5. Ravenna: 2-8 overall, 0-5 in the conference. Place is a great guy with strong intentions. Hopefully he has the intestinal fortitude to ride the storm and pull this program and community out of the mess Feldman left it in. They undoubtedly have one of the finest facilities in Ohio, but unfortunately, Cyle put all his eggs on making it big on Marcus Sanders' back, then bailed out of town. He alienated the community, and left the feeder program there is despair. Once Place has this rebuilt, especially in a tight community like Ravenna, and they have some depth and development throughout their program--LOOK OUT! Until then the Ravens will remain with their wings clipped short, unable to get off the ground.

That's how I see it. Share your thoughts and feelings!

THE DOGG IS OUT!
