The sense of history at KDKA began its decline in 1995, when Westinghouse bought CBS. Westinghouse executives were protective of the station's legacy, but the CBS managers who were brought in didn't care. One had the walls of a hallway cleared of years of awards won by the station and its employees. Another halted the longtime practice of allowing employees time off for charity work. Instead of naming the newsroom after the legendary Bill Steinbach, it was named after Fred Honsberger, who nay have done a good talk show but was not a very good newsman. That's why it's sad when management tried to celebrate an anniversary it really doesb't care about.
