Subject: Ottawa NWR up-date

Hello All,
I made the trek out to the estuary at Ottawa NWR yesterday (Wednesday) morning with high hopes of re-locating the Black-headed Gull, reported there yesterday. I scanned/scoped the nearly 2000 gulls (mostly Ring-billeds) many times and birded the area along the estuary for nearly 3 hours without finding this Ohio rarity. Most of the Bonaparte's Gulls had moved out as they reportedly made up nearly 50% of the total there on Tuesday and only 50 or so individuals were present. I thoroughly enjoyed hearing and watching many groups of Tundra Swans arriving and departing. I counted 256 swans at one point with about a dozen Trumpeters among them. Other noteworthy sightings include 3 Common Terns, 2 Franklin's Gulls, 500-600 Dunlin, and 3 Greater Yellowlegs. All of the Snow Geese had also left the estuary, but later I did find 2 White-morphs (again) at the inner beach at Maumee Bay SP. Hopefully these strong Westerly winds will bring some good birds our way!
