Subject: Thayer's gull, Erie Power Plant

This, from Allen Chartier:

"...I did have a 1st winter Thayer's Gull at the Whiting Plant yesterday (Monday) along with two adult Lesser Black-backed Gulls. A 1st winter Lesser Black-backed was the only gull of interest at Lotus Road yesterday."

The Thayer's gull is a prime candidate to get "lumped" again soon, and may soon disappear as a countable species. They are notoriously tricky to ID. That said, this particular plumage Chartier describes is in my opinion, the easiest plumage in which to identify Thayer's gulls.

This is the 9th gull species ID'd at the Erie Power Plant in the last week. Iceland should be expected any day now, with the amount of birder coverage there. Who can get one first? Maybe something better, anyone?
