Subject: Re: oak openings - also Kitty Todd for RH Woodpeckers
In reply to: Greg Links 's message, "Re: oak openings" on 07:07:14 06/06/01 Wed

The Kitty Todd preserve is also a very good spot to see several red-headed woodpeckers. The park, however, is only open from 9-5 M-F every week and the first weekend of the month. Their oak savanna and cactus trails will take about 90 minutes to cover in total at a leisurely pace.

A few of the other birds you will see at Kitty Todd include:
Indigo Bunting
Eastern Towhee
Orchard Oriole
Baltimore Oriole
Rose-breasted Grosbeak
Bluebird
Eastern Kingbird
Lark Sparrow
Willow Flycatcher
Common Yellowthroat

They have a real nice demo garden area that shows a lot of the native plants that grow in the Oak Openings region and a small office where you can get additional information.
