Subject: Pickerel Creek, No Birds, Habitat Report

I stopped out at Pickerel Creek Saturday evening. Not much in the way of birds, lots of snakes though. The dike heading out from the observation platform has not been mowed.

The unit north of the platform has very low water, much lower than last July with only a bit of water remaining in the deeper channels. Lots of mud flats as last year. I imagine DNR will eventually draw water back into the impoundment for the waterfowl.

Could this area possibly be as good as last year? Let's hope so! Ok, there were a few shorebirds: Lots of Killdeer and 3 Spotted Sandpipers.

Good Birding!

BZ
