Subject: Oak Openings- Summer Tanagers

On Sunday, I found two Summer Tanagers in new locations in and near Oak Openings.

In Oak Openings, a young male, mostly red with only a small amount of greenish yellow on it's side, was singing in the pine trees on the west side of Girdham Rd, .4 of a mile south of Sager Rd.

North of the airport, the second bird, an adult male, was singing on the west side of Whitehouse-Spencer Rd about 100 yards north of Shaffer Rd. I think the property was marked as being part of Kitty Todd Preserve.

Back in the Oak Openings:

At the intersection of Girdham and Reed, there were two Mockingbirds, two first year male Orchard Orioles, and a pair of Yellow-billed Cuckoos were seen mating.

On Sager just west of Wilkins, 4 male Bobolinks, Grasshopper and Savannah Sparrows were on the north side of the road while on the south side, there was a singing Chat and a Black-billed Cuckoo.

At the Girdam Rd dunes just north of the bike path, there was another vocal Chat and singing Lark Sparrows.

Rick
