Subject: PMSGA Monroe Co., MI

*Black-necked stilts remain. The birds are now being seen on and around the island in the NE corner of the Lead Unit, where they are presumably hiding their young in the thick vegetation. 3 adults were seen yesterday.

*Common eider is still there, in Cell 4 along the Banana. Also, in Cell 4 there are Common goldeneye, and numbers of both scaup. 13-15 total duck species are present.

*Yellow-headed blackbird has taken up residence in the Vermet Unit.

*Shorebird migration is under way. Hundreds of shorebirds were present yesterday in the Lead unit. Most were Lesser yellowlegs, but Least and Semipalmated sandpipers were also present, as were Black-bellied plover (present since May), and 5 Short-billed dowitchers.

(On the west side of MI, Willets, Marbled godwits and Avocets have all been seen along the Lake MI beaches).

I predict it will not be long at all before another great discovery is made at Mouillee (that's sort of like saying, "I predict that the team with the most points at the end of the game will win").

I know where I'll be over the long weekend!

Greg
