Subject: Spring migration has begun

Spring migration has kicked off. About 8,000 ducks were along Bayshore road today. Most were expected species of expected numbers.

1,050 Common goldeneye was a nice number. Even nicer were that many of the males were in full display. This is a real treat to watch.

A single Common loon was also present.

I had 155 Lapland longspurs flying east-west along Bayshore road, and Vic Faxio had 173 flying east-west over Maumee Bay State Park. Obviously, most if not all of these were the same birds.

Smaller numbers of Horned larks were on the move.

At least a couple of Killdeer were seen migrating along this same route as well.

Also at Maumee Bay STate Park today were territorial Red-winged blackbird (1) and Eastern meadowlark (1). Welcome back! Fazio had these birds at MBSP.
