Subject: Horned Grebe

Hi Again,

Earlier this afternoon (Sunday) I spotted a Horned Grebe on my pond (Cedar Point Rd near Mallard Club Marsh) in the back yard while doing some work down at the barn. The bird was in transition to breeding plumage.

I went to the house for the telephoto and got some documentation photos (could even see the light tip of the bill). I sat down next to the pond and later the bird swam right to me providing awesome looks and full frame photos. The bird eventually came to within about 12-15 feet. A few moments later the Grebe took off into the SE winds and then did a low fly by as it headed towards Lake Erie.

A good day indeed.

Brian Z
