Subject: Wintergarden Park Ramble

The first of the new TNA evening Rambles in the Park can most definitely be termed a great success. Our Ramble through Wintergarden Park/St. John's Nature Preserve in Bowling Green provided us with a nice mix of lingering winter visitors, early migrants and year-round residents.

The stars of the evening were easily those species which are or soon will be nesting. Pairs were the order of the day with downy woodpeckers, hairy woodpeckers, great-horned owls, screech owls and wood ducks all seen perching together in trees. Add in the singing brown thrashers and Carolina wrens, top it all off with the magnificent display flights of the woodcocks and you have a wonderful spring evening. The weather could not have been better which only added to the enjoyment of our Ramble.

Great idea, Eric! Hope the rest of the Rambles turn out as well.
