Subject: Migration on Sunday Red-headed woodpeckers

Similar to Elliot's experience in the Oak Openings on Sunday, warblers and other migrants were also in abundance in the rain at the Andersons Farm on Sunday morning. In no more than 20 minutes of birding (as I snuck out from the Mother's Day breakfast festivities) I had 17 species of warblers in Mom and Dad's backyard alone. Best by far was a very vociferous Connecticut warbler.

On another happy note, on a trip between Napoleon and Whitehouse on Saturday morning, single Red-headed woodpeckers flew over the road in four separate spots. I've also seen a few more than normal otherwise this spring. It would be great to see a rebound of this diminishing species. By the way, a reliable spot for this species is on the Lial School campus (or across the street from it) along Davis Road in Whitehouse.
