Subject: Clay-colored Sparrow & Black Terns

A trip to the lakeshore on Wednesday morning yielded mediocre migration conditions, but a few good birds were had. I found a Clay-colored along the causeway at Metzger just a couple hundred yards west of the small woods at the end. At the Magee causeway, five Black Terns were over the open water well east of the causeway. Singing Sedge wrens were at both Metzger (in the marsh where you turn north onto the causeway) and at Magee also along the causeway. A Virginia rail was calling at the same spot as the Metzger wren. Finally, huge numbers of swallows - particularly Bank - were on the move. I'm sure I saw well in excess of 1,000 of that species.
