In reply to: Chuck 's message, "Bell's Vireo - Wood County" on 09:11:56 06/01/02 Sat

This IS a neat spot. Stopped by early afternoon Sat and Sun (8th and 9th), for about 1.5 hours each. At one point Sat, thought I was hearing the Bell's song, right at that "Oil Boom" sign spot. A bit abbreviated from what I'm used to (California - only place I've ever had them), but it did sound like Bell's Vireo - couldn't think of anything else it would've been. But no further sign (or sound) of the bird. Also, add Mockingbird, Alder Flycatcher, and Grasshopper Sparrow to the birds for this spot. There is construction on Needles Road, but you may be able to drive in or even walk in for closer access - I drove in. (then north for approx 1/3 mile)

Maybe some more persistence will pay off for me, or someone else. Thanks for finding this, Chuck - a great bird!
